Step edit - copy / paste events - is it supposed to work like this?

I’m a little bit puzzled with copying and pasting events.

When I do a selection and press copy + pad to copy the events of a particular track and then go to another bar and paste them, the events are pasted but without any level, pitch, env information from the events I copy from. I hear the original unedited sample of the track. To copy / paste events like that is not usable at all, I don’t want to set the sound again and again for each pasted event / selection of events.

Then I tried to do the same thing through the copy menu. There, all the pitch, level, etc. information are copied for the selected events, but unfortunately paste and replace erases events from tracks which I have unselected in the copy menu. But I need to use paste and replace because the bars I copy to already contain events and I want to overwrite them. So the only way to achieve what I want is to erase all events which I want to overwrite beforehand. Then select the bar I want to copy, go into the copy menu, unselect the tracks I don’t want to copy and use paste and merge. This is very slow and cumbersome. Did I miss something? Why can’t I just use copy+pad and paste and the event parameters are also copied? And why are events erased for unselected tracks with the paste and replace function?

I’ve just bumped into this also.

It doesn’t make much sense to me either. I understand the benefit of Paste & Replace but there needs to be a method that lets you just paste and replace specific tracks whilst leaving the others untouched.

I thought that copying and pasting just a specific track (selection > copy + pad) might work but it doesn’t. When you go into the paste menu, even though no other track numbers appear, when you paste and replace all their steps are deleted.

I think what is wanted is a way to paste & replace only specific tracks from the clipboard whilst leaving others intact.

Seems obvious… are we missing something here?

Have you tried Paste + Merge? As long as the target track/pad is empty, this option will preserve everything in the target pattern except for the pad(s) you select when pasting. Paste + Replace will replace all information in the target pattern.

Paste + Merge won’t clear the target track/pad, but you can clear it using Erase before pasting.
