SP1200 Swing

Question for the experienced OGs, to get that old 90’s hip hop swing do you apply the swing to ALL the drums or just the kicks or hit hats for example?
For those that have the S2400 how do you think the swing holds up to the 1200?

Ive never had an Sp 1200 but i thought swing was dependent on the song. Those 90s boom bap songs had swing in the mid 60s though which gave drums that slappy repetitive sound when note repeat was used.

Also think simpler when thinking of how they did things in the past. Id apply global swing if anything or even no quantization

I usually change it individually but I try to get it right without Quantise, like Beatsheik said (If I can get it right). I also try to cut hats from a sample, when it’s riding (2 hat hits or 4 if possible depending on the break) sounds more organic then, as each velocity of the hat is dependent on the drummer playing it (if that makes any sense).

Quantizing the whole pattern or only single hits can both work, it depends on the song/groove.
I usually start with 52%/54% on the whole pattern to see if there’s a benefit and then work from there.
