SOLVED - MIDI Controller to MIDI Out Problems

Solution is turning on “Echo” within the sync menu. Thanks avery.moss.magic

I’ve got external synths hooked up and for some reason I can’t solve this issue.

Entering the MIDI banks and with settings placed properly, I can control each synthesizer (let’s use the Moog Minitaur as the example) no problem. I press the pad, pad lights up, notes play on the Moog. I have the faders and knobs set properly to control filter/etc, works just fine.

When I have an external MIDI controller connected (eg, keystep with USB host, Deluge with DIN) I can control any regular sample no problem. Kick sample on MIDI channel 3? No problem.

The problem comes when I’m trying to control the synths with the controllers through the S2400. I press key on the external controller and the MIDI pad lights up and receives info. I can press record and play the controller and it records the MIDI data and during playback only will it play the synth. But I cannot for the life of me figure out why I can’t get data to go to the synth this way. It doesn’t pass the MIDI data thru at all. I’ve tried every single global setting, every single MIDI track setting, I’ve swapped and used different devices.

Is monitoring the synths this way not possible? Am I doing something wrong? It’s obviously not a huge issue as I can use the deluge to record the parts and then plug the deluge into the sampler, and record the MIDI data to one of the MIDI only tracks, and then playback, and it works, but I’d like to be able to do this live without extra steps.

Thanks for any suggestions fam.

There is a setting hidden away in Sync menu ( I think) marked Echo - it’s for sending or not sending MIDI notes back out when recieved. You can toggle it for synths with/without a local on/off control. Try that and let me know if it works?

Funny enough, when I went to try this, before going to the Echo setting I tried the key step again and it worked fine all of a sudden. Then tried the Deluge, no luck. Then I turned Echo on and lo and behold, it works! Thanks brother man.
