It would be nice to be able to offset a sample’s start time. Similar to what quantize shift does but while the sample is playing. It could help drums fit into the pocket better for those looking for a certain groove
I don’t understand, aren’t you already able to do this in loop/slice mode?
I just make several samples…? I’m confused, this device offers endless editing for this stuff.
I guess i should’ve been more clear. As I’m looking to shift notes post recording quantize from the track settings menu.
Nudge?
"An event can be nudged forward or backward in the pattern. Nudged events retain all of their
parameter values. Select the nudge icon to display the nudge screen. The nudge amount
expressed in bars + sixteenths + ticks. There are 24 ticks per sixteenth note.
Nudges are saved in the pattern immediately. To undo a nudge, set the nudge amount back to
zero, and re-nudge"
This way just takes a little longer than id like. Just want to nudge at the sample level and not the pattern.
Is this what you want to do?
- Record your sample and press play.
- Go to “Loop/slice”-mode for the relevant sample/pad
- Press “A” for the relevant pad to activate Playback override to listen to the changes you make in step 4.
- Change samplestart by the fader (press “B” to see the waveform at the same time if you like). Now you are altering the sample start offset while playing.
- Hold “A” while holding the Pad at the same time to add the changes/alterations to your recording.
Be aware, that if the sample is too long, you can’t see the waveform when playing. No sure what the maximum length is, but I guess it is in the manual.
Thanks for the reply! This works with sounds that can be repositioned but not for a sound like a snare thay starts directly on the transient. What im looking to do is add “air” to the before the transient to make it delayed in the sequence. Or if possible to shift the sounds a few ticks in the track settings to delay it.
This is mainly for pre made samples. Also i know i could just resample the sample with air on a blank pattern but im looking for a simplified approach.
Program a pattern with one snare hit on the place you want based on the time of silence you want before the transient.
Bounce the pattern, then assign the sound to a pad and do as dave said.
Cheers
I think I’ve heard it was for files larger than 2 MB. But I could be wrong.
You can Shift sounds unquantized while playing like this:
- In Step program locate desired sound/note with the Select-wheel. It will then become highlighted.
- When desired note is highlighted (may be several notes highlighted if placed the same position) press and hold F4 and relevant Pad for desired note at the same time. Desired note now blinks.
- Zoom all the way in to Qfine with F3.
- You can now move the blinking/selected note freely and unquantized with the Select-wheel and hear the changes while playing.
- Press F4 again or Enter to save the note in the new position.
To grab several notes, press and hold Shift while moving the Select-wheel from left to right and you will select a larger area in the Step program-pattern.
If a note is already unquantized, to be able to locate and grab it as described in Step 1 and 2 you might have to highlight an area around it. Use zoom to get close to it and prevent grabbing undesired notes nearby.
You can also record air prior to sample hit and then adjust sample start to taste using abovementioned method.
If you’d like to have real time quantize shift you can +1 the following thread.
The S2400 still lacks this feature compared to an old or new MPC imo.
Not asking for a cathedral reverb but for something rather standard
