I’m going to make my problem super simple in hopes someone can offer some advice?
win10, reaper, s2400, usb-B cable - no clock.
Reaper sees the s2400, input/output midi enabled no clock. reset, turned off in reaper.
pad 1 sample of a kick - pad 2 sample of a snare = simple
main outs of s2400 connected to in’s of a rme ucx II - totalmix shows sound and can hear it in headphones.
reaper midi track s2400 in/out - hit a pad have midi.
record a simple 4 bar kick snare. have midi data recorded.
s2400 pad 1 and pad 2 set to percussion midi channel 10
reaper midi isla instruments set to channel 10
hit pads = sound in headphones midi meters in reaper
playback 4 bar midi = no sound no midi meters in reaper
s2400 midi monitor shows notes on/off
go into reapers midi editor and hit notes on keyboard, no sound
so s2400 is sending midi to reaper, but when reaper plays it back s2400 is not responding?
I think this has to do with midi thru tracks and sample tracks. I want to start with the s2400 as a sound module in reaper daw to midi sequence. I’m move into outboard gear and sync later but I can’t even get them to communicate on this basic level.
3 days I’ve spent. the videos jump around and are hard to follow and the manual is sparse.
how do I get basic midi in when I hit a sample pad of kick snare to record into reaper midi
and playback that kick snare when I play it from reaper on the s2400?
it’s probably something stupid, but I’m stumped and if the thing didn’t sound so good, I’d sell if for an mpc - that’s the point of frustration I’m at …
I am really sorry to not be more specific help, because I am neither a Windows nor Reaper user but your goal should be totally attainable. Make sure that the S2400 is set correctly in the SYNC settings menu under “Sample Tracks Map” - and also make sure the S2400 is “listening” to the port and channel that Reaper is sending (Also in the SYNC menu). On the Reaper side, I cannot help you - but I have done this in Ableton on a Mac successfully and often.
thank you for your reply. So I did as you said and spent some time in sync settings and now it works.
I’m not even sure what I did. So I’m goiung to go back and turn each thing I did off and then back on again while playing simple pattern to see if I can isolate what made it work.
Theweird thing is when I recorded the midi notes it recorded to kick = c4 and snare = c#4 in reapers midi editor. So I set the mappings to those notes even though there was no sound on reapers side when hitting those notes in the editor. I then deleted that 4 bar midi take and re-recorded just wanting to start fresh and it recorded the midi and returened the sound but those notes are now on c5 = kick c#5 snare even though I have them set on c4/c#4 in s2400. yet it works and when I hit the notes in reapers editor they sound.
so the issue seems to have been a mapping one. but I’m going to try to isolate it so it’s not just a one off lucky thing.
Dude I am so glad to help! It takes a bit to get set up, but you can save settings files (very useful) if you need to use the S2400 a certain way a lot. Glad it works.
