[Resolved] DSP card install gone wrong (EDIT: DSP card install gone RIGHT)

I’ve already written to support, but just a note here for anyone installing their DSP card –

I installed mine very carefully, and I don’t think anything went wrong. (There’s always that chance, but…)

Once I finished the install, I turned on the power and…loading screen. Nuttin’. Every few times I turn it on and off, I get this error:

Audio board COMM FAIL!

I did NOT update the firmware before installing, but from what I could tell from the various videos, forum posts, etc. that are the only documentation so far, that shouldn’t be necessary.

I’ll update this thread when I hear back from support and get the issue resolved, just wanted to throw this out there in case it helps anyone. Based on my experience, I’d update the firmware first. That should be fine, since it works w/out the DSP card now. I kind of doubt that’s the problem, but :person_shrugging:

Ooof I’m so sorry. That’s a bummer. Hopefully they know what might be wrong and get it sorted for you!

Thanks! Rob did reply quickly, although no solution yet. Really hoping I don’t have to send it in…I would really miss it!

I haven’t seen the ticket yet as I am at my grandmother-in-law’s mounting her new microwave to the wall.

You don’t need to install the fw first.
If you’re getting this failure then it’s more likely you don’t have a ribbon connected or you have mis-aligned the pins of the connector.

DO NOT keep trying to turn it on.

Remove the card, then boot the machine up as it was before, and install the new firmware.
Then try re-installing the card again.

@bradholland Thanks for popping in during your micro installation

Is there any danger in leaving the audio cables unplugged after I remove the DSP card? Then installing the updated fw and trying again?

(obviously the ribbon connectors need to be connected.)

no danger no, of course you won’t hear anything.

Just want to let everybody know that Isla helped me get things sorted out, the DSP card is installed and working, and my S2400 is rocking out again.

I’m not 100% sure what happened – the error I saw indicated a bad physical connection to the audio card, but it started working after messing around with the SD card and getting the new firmware installed. Wish I could be more specific, but I don’t know jack all about this stuff!

I really appreciate the quick attention from @bradholland and @roborr, who got me back up and running so I can make some weird shit again. <3<3<3

addendum, now that this thing is back in my studio: this DSP card is THE SHIIIIIIT!!! worth the wait, and worth tripping over myself to install.

for someone like me, who doesn’t like to work in a DAW much, this opens up SO MANY possibilities.
