(Resolved) DSP Card stuck initializing and no sound from S2400 - help?

Hey there! I just installed a number of new plugins on the S2400 DSP Card via the SD “dspcard” folder and followed the Sync Files option, then rebooted my machine. I hear the DSP spin up when I power on, but there is no sign of life from the card - I cannot get my machine to see the DSP card anymore. Help me @bradholland , you’re my only hope.

My unit is also completely dead and will not make any sound at all. Super freaky stuff. Any idea how to bring it back to life? I’m gutted. I can make a proper support ticket too.

Update: I opened the unit just to make sure that all ribbon cables are seated correctly, etc. it all seems completely correct and functional per the install video. I have submitted a support request from the email avery.moss.magic@gmail.com. Please let me know ASAP, I am in the midst of working on an album that heavily uses the S2400.

I had a similar issue.

Highly recommend to just send everything back to them immediately when/if they give you the opportunity as that’s by far the easiest and fastest way to get everything resolved 100%. This way you can get back to your project sooner and not have to keep troubleshooting on your own which eats up time and can cause frustration.

Im in the states so It cost me about $35 max for everything, and they had it back to me within 48-72 hrs if I’m not mistaken once they had received it. My only regret was not sending it to them sooner.

Good luck!

Remove the SD card, boot and then reinstall the firmware.

No combination of rebooting/firmware updates has proven effective. And @rusbra I actually don’t think I can lose the amount of time it would take to ship it there and back - I’m inclined to just open it up and remove the DSP card but that’s a pretty terminal option when it feels like it just got stuck booting or corrupted with a file. I sent a Support Ticket last night but haven’t heard anything yet, but I also didn’t get a confirmation that it was sent correctly. @av500 / @bradholland do you know of any way to reset the DSP card if all physical connections are correct and it was just working perfectly for hours?

Rob will send you the files and instructions to do a factory firmware restore on your DSP card.
However, if you took the card out and machine is still not working, then it sounds like you’ve done something more drastic.

I did not do that yet haha, I’m just trying to get up and running. Sorry for sounding panicked, this was just a mysterious problem.

1: if it is NOT booting at all when you have NO SD card installed.
Download the latest S2400 firmware from the support section, the s2400 firmware, NOT the DSP firmware.
Rename the downloaded files extension from .UPD to .UPF
put it on the root of your known good SD card and place in the machine and turn on.
it will still appear dead for up to five minutes. it should eventually reboot itself.

The machine is booting up totally fine and I have already done a firmware update (it was already updated) while troubleshooting. Everything seems in order but no DSP card detected and no sound.

Ok so sounds like some skanky plugin you copied over borked it then.
you need to always be certain that you are copying over aarch64.

I have borked mine before by copying over an arm32 binary..

rob in support will provide you with the factory firmware reset method for the DSP. you’ll need a microSD card for that.

I suspect you’re correct! My email for @roborr is avery.moss.magic@gmail.com. Glad to know there have been other borkings via bad plugins, I’ve learned my lesson. I’ll stay on the safe side in the future. It seemed weird because everything functioned perfectly before and still mostly functions perfectly now, minus DSP Card being detected and the machine making sound. Is Rob gonna email or message on the forum? I have a nice MicroSD handy right now.

Hey Brad - still waiting for Rob to send those files, could you send them to me? Sorry to be impatient, but I have a deadline looming for a recording project.

@roborr saved me! Thanks for the careful instruction and troubleshooting from you and @bradholland … all working again on my end!
Woooo! Learned my lesson about playing fast and loose with plugin formatting, I’ll leave the testing to the testers.
