DSP card reinitializing after a shock/surface shakes holding the S2400

The DSP card works fine after I installed it into the S2400, but when there is a shock to the surface that is holding the S2400, for example, the table it’s sitting on has a vibration from me playing an external midi-keyboard or if I move the S2400; the DSP card will start initializing itself again as if I just turned the machine on.

Basically, the fan goes vrooooom. The song/pattern that’s playing at the moment pauses and then after a few moments later the S2400 continues to work with the DSP as normal.

Steps to repro on my end

  1. Turn on S2400
  2. Load up a project
  3. Press play
  4. Verify song plays fine
  5. Load a plugin to DSP
  6. Verify plugin has been loaded to DSP fine
  7. Touch/Shake the surface S2400 is sitting on ie… play keys on midi-keyboard, or just move S2400 a bit
  8. Verify DSP card goes vroom (sound it makes while initializing)
  9. Verify pattern/song stops
  10. Verify trying to access the DSP menu at this point says “No DSP card inserted, or DSP Initializing”
  11. Wait a few moments
  12. Everything continues to work as usual, but DSP card no longer has plug-in added from step #5 but could be added again without issue.

My initial thoughts are that I didn’t tighten the screws on the DSP board enough. I can’t imagine it’s the ribbon connectors, since everything is working up until there is a disturbance to the surface that the S2400 is sitting on.

Any suggestions/thoughts or steps that I should take if I open up the unit to examine/reconnect anything? Also, let me know if there are any logs or anything that I can pull for you.

Thanks in advance, Isla Instruments Community & Isla Instruments team

Here is an update; so I removed the DSP card and reassembled the S2400 back to factory settings and everything went smoothly. I could boot up all projects etc just fine. I did this so that I could try installing the DSP card again from scratch.

After installing the DSP card for a second time, this time, the card’s fan starts to 'vroom, but the card never initializes this time around. The S2400 works as if the card doesn’t exist. Maybe I need to flash the DSP’s firmware again? Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem possible as the DSP card is currently up-to-date, plus the S2400 seems to be ignoring the card at this pt.

Does anybody know if there is a way to force re-install the DSP card’s firmware? There is a “reset” button on the DSP card that I’m hesitant to tap, but I’m assuming that’ll flash the DSP card’s firmware or something?

Anyway, I’ll wait for an update from the community or the Isla Instruments in case anyone knows what’s happening or if there is step I’m missing.

if the S2400 does not offer to install the DSP firmware, then it does not “see” the DSP, thus check again that the DSP card is seated correctly. If you can still hear the S2400 outputs, then the DSP is up and running, it just cannot talk to the S2400, there is no need to re-install software. if the issue persists open a ticket with support…

Thanks for the response
