DSP Output Volume

Thanks Isla team, got my DSP card and install was smooth. Did both firmware updates, but noticed when I load a previously saved project, it plays much louder than before almost distorted, this is both through speakers with the mix out pot or just in headphones. I did reopen the machine just to double check all connections were solid. Any suggestions?

with the DSP card installed, the mix out is done by the DSP board, not the S2400 mixer, so it might be louder, did you try to pull back the main out fader in the DSP mixer screen?

That was it, appreciate the tip.

remember that previously, it’s been a complaint that the S2400 output was too quiet!

I think what’s happening is the DSP card is clipping in a different way than how the audio going directly to the analog outs was doing.

I could be completely wrong but I had projects saved where I cracked up the volume on a sound because it would distort in a cool way and when revisiting those projects they now sound bad, because it’s hitting the DSP card first before the analog outs.

I haven’t tried using a gain plugin on the DSP card to see if I can get it to sound the way it did before.

the ‘nice’ distortion was our soft clipping algorithm on the stock machine. that is still in place and the same is implemented on the DSP buses in the background.
I wouldn’t expect your old project to sound exactly the same though, so yeah, you’ll need to ‘remix’ your gain stages etc.

Yeah you’re right (of course lol). It sounds the same just have to mix the levels again. I cranked up the output again and it listened with a simple 808 sound and it sounded how I remember pre-DSP card.
