I agree. I’d love to see a 303 card. But, as it is a relatively simple OSC/filter structure, there could be plenty of room on the card for some analog distortion options.
A wavetable synth (8 voice) with analog filters on one card would be nice, too
Hi all.
Considering my noob status, I might not be in the right place for this question, and if this is the case, i’m sorry.
I have heard here and there that cards might be able to run vst’s.
Being able to switch between Surge XT software and a hardware version of it is kinda my dream synth.
Am I way out, or is it something that could happen in Caladan?
considering that they already make an arm/linux build of the plugin with CLAP/LV2 compatibility, it’s quite possible. Under the assumption that it can be made to work with our UI well enough that it makes sense.
We really have a lot of ground to cover in this area though, so no promises there.
Thanks for answering. Fingers crossed.
so have i missed something - will there by a vst-dsp card or is that the integrated dsp with the stock hardware?
“What is the point of analog percussion cards?”
I’m checking every day on the news/forum/fb for info on the Parva card can’t wait to learn more. Very curious to hear how its been remixed. It’ll be awesome if we get 2 voices per card (as sounded possible), great for more poly and unison bass patches.
I want to make sure I’ve got this right… if we pre-order the “Caladan-4 additional Voice Cards” for $399, we won’t be limited to only the Parva voice cards for those, correct? Might seem silly though, I just wanted to verify that this option would/could be for other voice cards as well.
This has been asked a few times and I don’t recall any official clarification getting posted. But the text on the pre-order page seems pretty unambiguous:
What do I get?
This early bird pre-order price includes the Caladan Synthesizer base unit with 2 or 4 Improved Parva voice cards, power cable.
So no choice of cards. The pre-order is for Parva cards only.
You’re right Jemmons, the additional voice cards are the improved Parva. I wrote the text on the website and its a bit ambiguous so I’ll clear that up now.
Awesome, thanks for that. I was positive that the +2 and +4 cards w/ caladan were Parva cards, as you pointed out it’s in the description. I was referring to the "additional 4 voice cards for $399, but thought maybe it was to preorder for other cards currently in development…
And thank you for the clarification as well. I hope you have a smooth day ahead.
I know that the 4 cards on pre-order are parva cards.
But is it possible to order the Caladan with 4 cards and wait until the other cards are develop to get those instead?
I’m about to order one but in my setup it would be more useful to have different cards/synth, rather than more polyphony for the parva.
Thank you for your help
Here’s the way I’d think about it:
- The pre-order is definitively for parva cards only.
- The only way to order right now is the pre-order.
- Therefore the only thing you can order right now is a Caladan with parva cards
Maybe Isla will, in the future, list a new offer for a Caladan with no cards. Or a Caladan with X cards of your choice. Or make some other announcement. But as of right now, if you order, you’re getting parva cards.
So I think your choices are:
- Pre-order a Caladan right now with two parva cards and, once delivered, find a use for them or sell them.
- Wait for a new pre-order offer that doesn’t include parva cards (might not happen)
- Wait for the Caladan and multiple other cards to be released and available and buy them a la carte (might be a long wait, might not happen)
Thank you Jemmons for your help!
What is the polyphony for Caladan + 4 cards.
Is this 4 notes? 8 notes? (2 voices per card)
I’m eagerly awaiting the info on the remixed Parva card to answer this question. There was talk about fitting two voices per card but that wasn’t a promise.
Is Caladan compatible with Parva’s original voice card? I have 9 of them. I would love to hook up Parva with Caladan using MIDI or USB cable, making them into one big synth with, say, 12-voice DCO voice cards and 4 FM voice cards!
