What do you have hooked up to your S2400?

After the MPC’s 2.11 firmware update, I decided to pack up my MPC Live and focus solely on using my S2400 as my main piece of gear.

Ken Pierce helped me slave my Hydrasynth Explorer to my S2400 (via USB MIDI). Looking at doing my RD-8 next.

What do you guys have hooked up to your S2400?

I recently synced S2400 with MPC 60. I prefer 60s drums, but samples and bass comes from S2400.
I use tube compressor and tube vitalizer to get that extra punch on my snear and more reach sound on my samples or base. Really like this setup.

I have 7 external synths midi’d up on bank E, with a midi keyboard connected by USB as host controller. I press button A above each pad to activate ‘midi input focus’ and control whatever synth channel I need to play & record. It’s been a gamechanger for workflow!

Currently, I have 5 external synths (had more back in the day… but sold a lot off and streamlined it).
Old JV80 kybd as midi-controller (5-pin midi In).

Also have an Electrix FF, which I had midi’d up when I still had an mpc60 before.
S2400 can’t automate/record the CC sweeps of the Electrix FF; not yet at least.

When/If the S2400 can record/automate some CC sweeps and mod-wheel/pitch-bend of all the external synths (and also my Electrix FF)… it’s gonna be super awesome.

Sheesh! LOL, I only have four pieces of gear: MPC Live, Hydrasynth, S2400 and the RD-8. I am thinking about getting rid of my MPC Live. Also thinking about getting a Fantom-06 and a Kordbot.

in this setup, would you still be able to sample your own synths into the 2400, as well as use the live looper?

also, really enjoy your YouTube videos, nice music and video production value is high. thumbs up emoji

How did you sync your hydrasynth with the s2400 as I have one and how did Ken help as I’m a bit stuck myself thanks in advance

He actually posted a video for me of how he set his Hydrasynth up on the S2400 Users Facebook group. Are you on Facebook? You can look up my post there.

Yes I’m on Facebook would be great to view it if possible

I’ll try to post it up here too.

I have a DSI Tempest and a Roland XP-30 (with Kordbot) that I sample / live loop from. Also, a Moog Slim Phatty is on the way, will need to use that via Midi. MPC 1000 and MPC 4000 sit idle. Technique SL1200 turntable gets the most use of anything.

ah thanks mate, appreciate that!

You know what, I haven’t tried the looper yet or sampling my synths but that is something I want to start doing - sampling my synths with a bit of reverb, speed up & resample, pitch down etc - think it’s an old school trick that’ll glue everything together more and sound a lot more punchy. I just have very limited I/O at the moment and really need to upgrade my mixer from MX-1 to something like the Tascam Model 24

I’m loving the S2400, I think it’s the limitations and ease of use is what was the game changer for me, was looking into some some alternatives to fill in the gaps. I was thinking about selling my MPC Live 2 as well. What about the latest update made you want to pack it up for good? It’s a great machine but I find myself consistently overwhelmed.

Okay, so with the PAD PERFORM mode, it’s no way to turn the pads back to the CLASSIC VELOCITY setting. It was in the 2.10 update and I don’t know why they took it out. The MPC is a very complex machine. I’m still on the fence about selling, but I don’t really use my MPC Live at all since getting the S2400 because of that “immediate” feeling I get with the S2400.

I want to have it connected to my mpcx but i dont know how to set it up so they run together like its one unit.

So I tried sampling my synths for the first time at the weekend, some Juno 60 pads from the JU-06A and some pads from the JV-1080. They sound sooo sweet in the 2400, I resampled them and pitched down in classic mode, and had to engage the analogue output filters to offset the aliasing which was quite harsh. Sounded so gritty and old skool compared to running the synths direct from MIDI. Definitely the way forward to get the best out of this thing :ok_hand:t2:

I have also been trying the same thing, sounds great that way. I think it will be an excellent way to get double use out of my limited set up as well, sampling synths and then using midi to control other sounds from the same synths.

I hear that!

That’s a huge plus - freeing up the synth to audition and sample more sounds where previously I’d been stuck on the same patch using MIDI

Absolutely nothin’, except for my monitors and intermittent macbook. It’s relaxing.

I also hide the thing when I go to work due to my neighbourhood so it saves on setup time. lol

I’m thinking about getting JU06A. Is it easy to get nice sounds of it or do you need to have a proper knowledge about synthesis to do that?
