S2400 xl edition

Yes, for sure!
I had to wait three years before I can get one….

I am honestly very happy with the s2400. The only thing I wanted addressed was fixed 2 updates ago

I would love to see some type of version of the “S2400 XL” in the future.

The only thing I wish it had right now was a bigger screen or any type of video output. Hey, give me a VGA! But I guess Brad and Isla Instruments dgaf about my weak, old ass eyesight.

I love my unit! If bug fixes were it from here on out, this machine more than exceeded my wildest expectations!

The only thing I would ask, if possible, is a PC/Mac editor that would allow loading/auditioning samples, creating/saving kits, sample editing, etc kinda like the Roland SP-404 software, just so I can see better on a big computer screen, but still get the sounds and hands-on control of the unit itself

I think I was probably the first or one of the first here to inquiry about a S2400 kit maker. That would be a GOD SEND. I would gladly pay for that software.

I hope it happens!!!

A patch in Max/MSP or pureData could be worked out for this via USB midi. For monitoring various states that can be transmitted live.

The problem is if you want the computer to access / audition samples the unit would have to be in MSC mode. Maybe you can just open the sampler up and splice a second ribbon cable in to send to another screen. Or use a giant magnifiying glass on a fancy golden stand over the OLED screen.

I remember there were multiple applications to make kits for MPC’s back then. Some worked better than others, but they were available. Right now there is one actually called “Kit Maker”.

Of course, I’m not a software programmer and I’VE NEVER SAID IT’S EASY TO DO THIS.

But a kit maker for the 2400 will help EVERYBODY. Either by going into MSC Mode or taking out the SD Card and using a card reader you could load your drum one shots or chopped samples to the program and make your kits which will all be saved in the same location (SD Card). Imagine that. :fire::fire::fire:

For example, I use the standalone version of FL Edison to chop all my samples, and I can do it FAST. Been using that little program for years now so once I find gold I can cut up dozens of chops in record time.

I don’t mind chopping inside the S2400, but doing it in Edison for me is not only faster, but it gives more freedom to audition and pick the parts I want way easier.

Hello, I just ordered mine and haven’t gotten my hands on one yet, so please excuse my ignorance here…

Can’t we just put s2400 into MSC mode, make the edits and, chops, etc. in our DAW / wav. editor / any app we need (I never really used FL Edison but assuming it still works in this case) to and then drop and drag said sample / entire folder of edited sounds and samples we created into the s2400 through our computer via its MSC mode?

80% of the time I make my chops in Edison. Edison is underrated af and I know that joint front to back. Tried many other editors and I always come back to Edison. :man_shrugging:

The other 20% I do it inside the 2400. I don’t mind choppin in the 2400 but my vision is f*cked and with Edison I have a 35" widescreen monitor and I can get surgical with my chops.

AFTER I finish choppin plenty of samples, breaks etc, I put those in a folder for ex… “CHOPS 10-2023” and I copy that folder to the 2400 by MSC. Can’t get any simpler or better than that. :facepunch:

Keep in mind Edison is not an editor with a million features. But as far as basic choppin, making loops, you can even pitch samples up/down, stretch etc. But I mostly use it just to chop. Everything else I do on the 2400. Edison is not gonna look like Serato Sample or one of those programs that has 100 menus and a flashy interface.

Besides, I don’t think you could even get it now because they discontinued it and replaced it with some bs “upgraded version” with another name that is total trash.

But the same concept applies with any sample editor you use. :man_shrugging:

Understood, sometimes less is more anyways and when trying to make anything an “end-all-be-all”, things tend to lose what made them so special in the first place. frfr.

Thanks man, I’ll def look into the OG Edison software, though I’ve been growing more and more comfortable doing edits in Ableton’s “arrangement view” so it won’t be an issue either way. Just nice to checkout new tools (or dated, but new to me) to see if it can do anything for my workflow.

I had been thinking, for the most part, I’d just use the s2400 as my DAWless setup for chopping up vinyl records etc. but with the MSC mode, audio via USB features present and now (how we’ve been talking about editing audio here) has got me thinking it may be a good idea to buy a long-ass USB chord to route to the computer and still keep it stationed near the vinyl… but then again if only using audio through USB would missout on the analog filters…

hmm…

idk and I’m getting way off topic here in the xl edition forum anyways… lol. thanks for understanding… I’m just excited to finally be joining the s2400 fam soon as well as wrapping my head around how I want to best utilize the s2400.

Yoooo… I didn’t read about all the fidgety shit but the physical layout you’re proposing makes complete sense. Thanks for making me realize that I’ve been reaching to the top of the unit over everything to initiate functions. Now I’ll never unsee it

We keep you young :grimacing:
