Play X, why can't we all just get along?

What’s the point of this ?

did you read the manual? It explains it well.

those of us who have used MPCs will love this feature. older MPCs had a function button that you could activate to do these options. now on the newer mpcs they are dedicated pads in sample edit mode. i use this “play X” to trim the sample properly and to verify its looping properly, etc…

Yes I did rtfm, I understand what it does, but I don’t see how it would be of any use.

you understand what it does but you dont see how it would be of any use? :skull:

if yout dont see any benefit in it, dont use it. i see no benefit in the hifi engine, live loop, round robin, usb audio, so i dont use those features.

I’m really not a fan of the way my windscreen wipers automatically come on when I drive into the car wash.

Wait, that’s a thing?

Why not explain how you actually use it rather than doing what you’re doing which is entirely unhelpful?

It’s very clear in the manual what it does but why someone would want to use it is a completely different question.

So, again, why don’t you explain in better detail WHY someone might want to use this feature instead of talking down to someone?

And thanks Brad for the carwash advice :+1:t2:

because you can go to youtube and see examples of how people use it. i posted how i use it – cant get any simpler than that. folks are too lazy these days to take some time to research.

Using the “after” mode can be particularly helpful to finding the end-point of longer chops. If I’m getting crazy and dialing in a 30 sec chop from a long sample, being able to repeatedly play the point after the slice can quickly help me dial in where I want my chop to end, instead of listening to my entire chop multiple times and tweaking the sample end point. My MPC1000 with JJOS has an even more useful feature where you can play the end of your slice, just the last second or two, to dial this in quickly. It’d be nice to have something like that added to this feature in the future…

this was a feature I had suggested. The reasoning is that the S2400 can utilize much longer samples than something like an old SP1200 could. this means editing a long sample sometimes it can be very useful to play a sample from the end point on for example to quickly hear where your next slice point might need to be instead of listening to the whole sample or ruining your previous cue point.

i abso-smurfly loooveeee this feature and happy to see it on the 2400. i use this all the time on the mpc to really nail down the perfect loop. #IFluxWithIt

So then be actually helpful and post what is, in your opinion, a good Youtube video example of how to use Play X?

Being helpful online means taking that little extra step to provide useful and insightful links to answer someone’s question. Somebody has already made the video, all you have to do is link it.

seems like your wish was granted

Or, maybe people can take a little of their own time to research something?

Why should every naysayer and complainer have everything done for them on a plate? Seems like pretty entitled behaviour to me…

Don’t get fresh with me. :upside_down_face:

I posted what I do with Play X. The manual states how to use it. Why does anyone have to search online for information and post it here for the OP, when the OP can do the exact same thing themselves? Some folks on web forums these days are too lazy and just want to sit and let someone spoon-feed them. Go out and get your own info.

Rather than have a fresh mouth with me, you could have posted up something of value - like a link to a YT video - yet you chose to pollute this discussion with this sassy reply…

With respect, you are doing the same thing. We all have different levels of experience, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge and helping others. To be honest, I did some searches in the old Google and had some trouble finding other uses for this function besides what I know from my own experience with MPCs. Can’t we keep the forum positive and supportive? Easier to not answer and allow someone else to speak up.

To get the discussion back on track, can someone enlighten me on how to change the Play X mode? I didn’t find it in my read of the newest version of the manual. Probably just accidentally breezed over it.

Play X

When Play X is off, pressing the pad plays the slice (between the start and end points). When Play X is turned on, pressing the pad plays “X”, which can be defined as the whole sample, before the slice, 1 sec. before the slice, last 1 sec. of the slice, or after the slice. Press F9 to toggle Play X on/off, and long-press F9 to define X.

The best part of the “there’s videos on it online” or “do your own research” references here is that I literally cannot find a video online OR any additional information about it in regards to the S2400. You have to look at how it’s used on a completely different device to learn anything about it.

Calling people lazy when there actually isn’t any information on how it’s used on the S2400 is ridiculous. Looking up “Play X S2400” on Google has this thread as the top post and NOTHING else lol.
