Feature Request #05 - odd time divisions in quantisation[1]
Topics: sequencer, microtiming, groove, polyrhythm, complex rhythms
Function: add odd (or: any) time divisions in quantisation
Function as is right now
- contains quantisation for:
- 8, 8t, 16, 16t, …, fine
- which is powers of 2 and 3 (not available at the same time)
Function suggestion 1) - quantisation as fraction of 1 bar and an arbitrary integer x
- → 16th would be 1/16, 8t would be 1/12, 8th would be 1/8
- many other polyrhythm would be easily available 1/5, 1/7, 1/11, 1/13 (important for a lot of music influenced by West African rhythms, also to be heard in classic Detroit techno (early Jeff Mills Axis publications)
Function suggestion 2) - quantisation as fraction of y bars over x divisions
- that would unlock every thinkable polyrhythm, even with very long arcs
Function suggestion 3) - Emagic Notator SL like musical quantisation
- with original templates (16A, … 16F; 8A, …, 8F; 8 to 12; 1216; five; sept; nine; free)
- 1216 is especially interesting: combines quantisation for 16 and 8t
- same goes for 8 to 12: combines 8 and 8t
- 1216 is especially interesting: combines quantisation for 16 and 8t
What would be gained?
- very easy groove and complex rhythm generation just by setting of quantisation and tap/hold
- without need to have per track time signature or individual track length
- IMHO easiest way to implement polyrhythm into S2400
- many grooves that relay on syncopation or swing are actually notes played on grids derived from other divisions of 1 bar or cycle and arbitrary integers
- free machine and musicians from the narrow Classical European powers of 2 and a little bit of 3 restrains
