Feature Request #03[1]:
Topic: microtiming, groove
System level: sampling and sample manipulation
Function: add pre-silence/“air” to existing sample(s)
- add defined duration of silence prior sample start
- option for batch processing per project / folder / SD card
Gained function / utility:
- the classic workaround for per-track micro(pre)delay (FB02)
- enables user to shift transient position by reversibly adjusting sample start point (instead of trimming/truncating sample)
- thus
- allows easy laid-back, syncopated, or swung groove
- enables precise transient placement for punch and reduced phase issues, especially in layered drums
Proposal for implementation:
- in sample edit or track edit list (e.g. where resampling resides):
- “add pre-silence” (selectable default 2s, 1s, 500ms, 250ms, 125ms, or arbitrary number)
- in general functions (settings):
- batch processing versions
Further explanation:
- common technique/workaround in classic hip hop (MPC3000, I believe also MPC60 and SP1200)
- record a little bit of silence before transient
- don’t truncate to beginning of sample
- instead: set sample start independently
- (sample start in some machines can even be modulated)
Personal comment:
- could be solved in out-of-box software tool
- however, so could (almost) anything we do with S2400
- however, so could (almost) anything we do with S2400
- perhaps easier to implement than micro (pre)delay (FB02)
