[DSP card] Remove channels from main mix but still have audio from individual outs

The functionality of the S2400 before the DSP card had audio channels automatically be removed from the main mix when audio cables plugged into the individual outputs on the back in the device.

This was great because you could route S2400 audio out of, say, channels 7/8 and into an external effects unit, process it, and have it come back to the S2400 inputs to record in the Live Looper. This still works but with both the effected signal and dry signal happening at once we get phasing happening but mainly it’s hard to hear exactly what’s going on with the effected signal with the Dry signal playing on top of it.

I did some testing and confirmed:

Currently, you have to choose Main Out only or individual outs.

I couldn’t find any current way to have individual sounds come from the individual outputs and for the main outputs to simultaneously contain only return channels processed by what is on the master bus.

At present, the only way I found to use sends/returns is when you don’t tap the individual outputs at all. Otherwise, there is doubling and phasing.

One possible solution is for the DSP bus channel settings menu to select whether an input channel should be removed from the DSP’s main output bus entirely, such as when the user would like to use individual outputs for sounds and the Mains to ONLY return stereo FX returns and master bus processing of the returns, and also possibly from the inputs passed through a (new?) DSP but channel as well.

More testing and some notes…

The Bug:

With the DSP card, channels sent to individual outputs still play through the master bus. For example:

  • Route a channel to an individual out, process it externally, and return it via the DSP mixer.

  • The master output now plays both the dry signal (direct from the channel) and the effected signal (from the return), with slight latency differences causing phasing and muddled monitoring.

  • Pre-DSP, the dry signal would’ve been muted from the main mix automatically

Testing Details

  • Stereo Outs Only: No issues, works as expected.

  • Individual Outs + DSP Bus (Post-Fader Send):

    • Fader UP: Signal goes to the individual out and the master bus (with latency offset), doubling the audio or so, depending on Master volume knob position.

    • Fader DOWN or Muted: No signal hits the master, but this isn’t a fix—it’s just a workaround that silences everything and is evidence its possible to silence the individual output.

  • Pre/Post-Insert Send: Sending to the DSP mixer and pulling down the bus fader isolates the return on the master, mimicking a PFL-style send on a physical mixer. But this doesn’t address the core issue when using individual outs alongside Sends/Returns or Master FX.

Brad mentioned in an early video that the DSP card would “re-activate” main outputs when individual outs are used. That seems to be the root of this: channels no longer mute from the main mix, and there’s no option to restore the old behavior.

Suggested Fix

Add per-channel output routing options in the Effects via dropdown menu to let users decide:

  • Keep a channel in the main mix when using its individual out (current behavior).
  • Mute channel from the main mix (to mimic pre-DSP behavior with the DSP).

A single global setting would be less useful because some channels might need individual outs for external gear while others stay in the master bus for internal processing. Per-channel control restores the old functionality while adding flexibility.

I find this to be a big problem. Really hope they fix this soon. I wonder if I remove the DSP card if it would go back to the way it was or do I also need to go back to an older firmware?
