Shift button combo logic

I’m struggling with shift combos. I’m experiencing what I would consider inconsistent behavior, but I’m still new to the device so it could easily just be that I don’t understand the logic of the UI yet. This is partially a rubber duck exercise to try and explain it to myself, but could use some feedback on my expectations of the UI.

I’ve annotated
what I think is correct behavior :white_check_mark:
what feels like unexpected behavior :x:
what I can’t tell is expected :grey_question:

From fader mode screens:

  • :white_check_mark: Tap Shift, Tap [pad] from any fader mode
    – gets you into track settings

  • :white_check_mark: Tap Shift, Tap [A] in mixer/level/pitch/envelope/loop fader mode
    – opens mixer/level/pitch/envelope/loop settings

  • :white_check_mark: Tap Shift, Tap [B] in mixer/level/pitch fader mode
    – opens filter settings

  • :white_check_mark: Tap Shift, Tap [B] in envelope fader mode
    – switches between envelopes

  • :white_check_mark: Tap Shift, Tap [B] in loop fader mode
    – toggles loop

From settings screens:

  • :x: Tap Shift, Tap [B] in mixer/level/pitch settings
    – opens filter settings, AND toggles playback override
    – assume this would not toggle playback override if B is tapped while the shift LED is illuminated

  • :x: HOLD Shift, Tap [B] in mixer/level/pitch settings
    – opens filter settings, does not toggle playback override
    – assume this would just be a tap shift, not hold shift, for consistency

  • :white_check_mark: Tap Shift, Tap [B] in envelope settings
    – opens filter settings

  • :grey_question: Tap Shift, Tap [A] in filter settings opened via mixer mode (ie no fader mode LEDs illuminated)
    – does nothing
    – assume it would open mixer settings

  • :grey_question: Tap Shift, Tap [A] in filter settings opened via level/pitch mode (ie level/pitch LED illuminated)
    – toggles playback override
    – assume it would open level/pitch settings or do nothing

I feel like I’m missing something - is there a reason that playback override is automatically toggled with some combos and not others, or are these bugs? It feels a bit like a maze where I can get to some settings but not back to previous settings screens unless I go all the way back to a fader mode screen.

So, if I sort through all that, it seems like when you press and release the Shift button, the LED does not always come on. Which makes me think that you have a broken button, and you should submit a support ticket with a video showing what happens.

The shift button itself always correctly toggles after pressing it, it’s the interaction with the A and B buttons (which all correctly toggle as well) to navigate the different pages that is confusing me.

Steps to recreate a point of confusion:

Start from mixer mode
Tap shift (it illuminates)
Tap A
Mixer Settings opens
Tap shift (it illuminates)
Tap B
Filter Settings opens
AND Playback Override is toggled after releasing the B button

However

Start from mixer mode
Tap shift (it illuminates)
Tap A
Mixer Settings opens
HOLD shift (it illuminates)
Tap B
Filter Settings opens (playback override is not toggled)

I cannot reproduce that behavior.

I can send a more hi res video if needed, I had to reduce the file size to upload

HA! I was assuming you pressed exit after Mixer Settings was displayed!
Thanks for the video.

Gotcha, glad it helped! I’m trying to be as literal as possible in my recreation steps. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can provide to help

Here’s a video demonstrating how you can’t go from the filter settings page to the mixer settings page. This also applies when you’ve enter the filter settings page from the level, pitch, or envelope fader modes and then pressing shift+A from the filter settings page. I can’t tell if this is expected, but it seems like something that should be possible without having to hit [back] to leave the filter settings page before pressing shift+a to get into the mixer/level/pitch/envelope settings.

From mixer settings

And then trying the same thing trying to go pack to pitch settings from filter settings. Unlike when trying to go back to mixer settings, trying to go back to pitch settings also enables playback override

I got it. No need for further elaboration. All of that will be cleaned up and made 100% consistent.
