I don’t know if any of y’all are also users of the Cirklon, but I recently got one, and found that the available instrument definitions were often pretty lacking. I created definitions for all the devices I have that have deep MIDI CC controls available and made them public on Github.
Of course, there’s one for the S2400. If you’re interested, here’s a link. Enjoy!
You’re welcome and thank you! I’d welcome any help I can get. I am NOT a programmer at all, so doing these was an exercise in determination.
I have finished getting in the Cirklon definitions for the instruments I have (at least until I can find a MIDI implementation chart for the Pittsburgh Modular Taiga desktop module), so am moving on to the Pyramid and Hapax soon. Don’t want to lose momentum now!
I think you may have misunderstood my message: I mean that I’m going to make the same set of instrument definitions for Pyramid and Hapax.
I’d agree that Hapax is a better device for improvisation and play, but I actually found it to be a huge step backwards from the Pyramid in terms of highly intentional composition. I bought it on day one, and—don’t get me wrong—I do really like it, but I think the Hapax still has a lot of unrealized potential, and some pretty glaring flaws that I really wish Squarp weren’t so entrenched in maintaining.
WOW you are a legend. I just recently got a Cirklon 2 and although overwhelming, I am really starting to enjoy it. Still feel pretty sluggish/cumbersome/RTFM every few steps, but it is an extremely deep instrument innit!!! And yes +1 curious how you think it pairs with the S2400 sequencer? I’m not ready to fire up all that gear at the same time but I do feel like the 2400 is REALLY FUN to jam on but also somewhat lacking in the sequencer dept.
@ciemnika can you offer a little advice for getting this setup properly? I have the S2400 and Cirklon wired together with MIDI DIN, but it looks like for some reason each individual note on the cirklon triggers ALL the notes on the S2400. And the filter control only effects the filter on pad A1.
Strange behavior but I really like the idea of these things working together and would love to get it sorted out.
You have to set up the MIDI control map on the S2400. It’s been years since I’ve done it, so I don’t remember the specifics, but it’s well documented in the manual. Essentially, you just have to tell
The S2400 how you want it to handle incoming MIDI notes.
Okay thanks!!! My issue was I had to switch all the SampleMap behavior to “percussion” to get the individual samples respond to incoming midi notes individually. At this point I think I’ve decided that the S2400 is NOT as fun with an external sequencer as it is by itself. Because playing stuff in multi mode with the sliders, pitch / slice / volume…. It’s the best.
use note mode on s2400 and have each pad on a different midi channel. set-up instrument definitions on cirklon for each pad on s2400. cirklon midi settings to edit trak on. then you can pitch samples with a keyboard and choose different s2400 pads to trigger by changing instruments on cirklon.
the only downside is you have to do one pad sequencing at a time.
