Hi Brad,
I do enjoy working with the S2400, but in my opinion one thing is missing. Ofcourse there are other ways to solve it but it takes more time.
In sample mode it will be awesome to let the sequencer play, while you can hear your input sample. For example if you play your beat and want to sample a bassline or other sound from the synth (or turntable) you connect by input jacks. So you don’t have to sample right away to pick the sound/arrangement that i prefer.
Is my request something that will be changed in the future? For me thats makes the S2400 perfect.
Maybe you think: stick to use the liveloop for this…i hope not…
Thank you.

Hey @GVS2400 welcome to the forum! I think I understand what you’re asking for, but I just wanted to point out in case you didn’t know, that you can hear your input while the sequencer is running to audition samples if you select input monitor while in pattern mode. Just not while you’re in sample mode. So it’s really only one extra step to enter sample mode after you figure out what you want to sample.
Obviously what you’re asking for would streamline the process but at this point I think it’s unlikely that sample mode will see that feature. This isn’t the first time it’s been requested.
Hi @eazyian thank you for your input…that might work, but sometimes the timing/lenght of the sample is important that you need the beat active while you play the synth…if you don’t use a mixer.
That other users post this request before does mean something…but maybe not for the majority of S2400 users…too bad.
Can you explain what you are missing when you would record into the looper instead of the sampler?

Recording a sample that is longer than the pattern length (as limited by a live looper). Sometimes it’s good to record real-time tweaking and you don’t always get a good take in the time dictated by the pattern length, so being able to use the s2400 to sequence something with midi, then sample it while you’re tweaking parameters for longer than the duration of the pattern length is pretty useful.
So, you could extend your pattern to whatever length you want. Then configure the looper to 2 banks, to mono, to 1 track and then you have close to 3 minutes to do your recording. After you’re done recording, truncate the pattern to the original length.
Just work with what you have, be innovative, get the most out of your tools… that is what 35 years of making beats has taught me. It makes you more creative/unique while you dwell on edges of what is possible.
It just seems weird that you can do this with workarounds in live looper, but you can’t just sample with the transport running in sample mode. I’m sure there were design considerations when this was implemented, but it feels like an arbitrary limitation as a user. This is not a hill I’m gonna die on trying to advocate for, just expressing that it would be helpful and less flow-impeding than a workaround with live loopers

It is not arbitrary, it is a memory limitation. In sample mode, all of the memory is dedicated to sampling so that you can record the longest sample possible. That is why the samples cannot play.
When recording Live Loops, the memory is split. So some, but not all, samples can play while recording Live Loops.

Thanks for the background info, much appreciated!
