the soundfont plugin should run in both mono or stereo bus modes.
ok plugin builder soundfont size limit is now increased to 1gb.
Cool. Does it sum channels or grab one of the two? It matters for room mics and weirdly placed mics. Thank you.
I got three kits to convert from the DSF “Acoustic Kits” package. A fourth “jazz kit” was 183MB and didn’t want to convert, with a consistent error “Upload timed out.” This is different than the errors I saw the last go, so I think your 1GB limit change did nuke at least one bug.
I’ll report back on the mono vs. stereo sound quality for these kits once I get everything sync’d. It will depend on how the kit was mic’d.
The three kits were ~400MB total, and are taking a bit to sync to the DSP card, as predicted.
Yeah I believe it sums 50% each channel.
OK what’s your internet speed like?
If you bring up the developer console in chrome, Control + Shift + J on Windows and Command + Option + J on Mac.
You should see the file upload in chunks, let me know what percentage it gets to with one of the files that craps out.
I have a very fast fibre connection, but was able to upload a 900mb soundfont today in about 25 seconds.
Ok, trouble in paradise:
Sync to the DSP card happened, asked me to reboot. Upon reboot the machine can’t see the DSP card nor my SD card. F7 help key (DSP parameters) says: “No DSP Card Found or Still Initializing”.
EDIT: Ok, something got wonky with the relationship between the SD and the DSP. I can pop the SD out and use the DSF drum kit, however the system can no longer see my SD card. I’ve rebooted a few times with and without meatballs.
you’re looking at the wrong thing there in the developer tools, you should be looking at ‘console’ tab.
do it before or as it is uploading.
how many soundfont plugins have you tried to copy over? can you tell me what the total size of them all combined is please?
I can’t see the SD card right now, but here is my best estimate:
DSF Kits = 3x 130MB ~=400MB.
I added the vintage synths and vintage drums last week, but those are very small.
I haven’t touched the bits you all shipped with (Dreamwave, etc).
If you’re instead speaking of the upload site you made, the ones that bailed were around 180MB.
so you’re crapping out at about 75% or so I see. about how long does it take to get to that point before it craps out?
two things are at stake here. file size upload limit (you’re not hitting that) but also time to completion, and it looks like that’s the issue there.
I’d estimate 60 seconds?
We’re fighting two issues - getting plugs made through the site (above), but more importantly that once the SF2 were loaded up, my SD card disappeared. Futzing with that, I can hot swap the SD in and it works, and I switched to a previous SD card to get the SF2 plugs off of the DSP card. I’m not back to a stable SD yet. This is coupled with a very long load time for the device (when invisible SD card is installed).
i don’t believe the two issues to be related.
if you have no sd card installed and boot, does the DSP card come up?
Yeah, issues aren’t likely related.
Yes, if I pull the SD out, then boot, I have a functional DSP card. I can hot swap the SD into the device at that point.
I’ve tried full erase of the SD card, formatted it a few times, but SD installed when booting with DSP card is now a collision (long boot time and invisible SD).
sounds like your sd card might be taking a shit.
i would try another. but when you come to sync your dsp to the new sd card it’s going to remove plugins from the DSP card.
it happens.
I took a break from the debug, and recalled that my work MBP had an SD reader. I erased from OSX and then tried again from the S2400 - totally fine now. I can see the DSP card, it boots quickly, and I was able to re-reformat the SD from the S2400. I power cycled and check those signs again. The SD card was a brand new OWC, literally having been opened tonight. I’m documenting this incase it pops up for another user.
Hey @bradholland - I tried the same steps tonight - fresh OSX erase of the SD card, format in 2400, copy some very small samples over and use in Bank A. Everything works, just like old times.
Then I copy the large SF2 using USB, sync to DSP, reboot. It works the first time through. The second time through the 2400 can no longer see the SD card. I then rescue the SD card with my MBP, and am back where I started.
While I don’t have conclusive evidence one way or another, it could be something in the new firmwares, as the old mode worked fine with the SD card.
I think I’m gonna punt on the SF2 drums, as the format doesn’t allow manipulation, but I thought you all should have the play-by-play if this pops up again.
By the way,

Are monophonic/polyphonic settings and things like legato and portamento going to be added to this editor? Or do those need to be set up in the soundfont itself beforehand?
That’s actually a good question, of which I don’t know the answer to.
Fluidsynth is the underlying engine playing the soundfonts, and it should respond to the correct midi cc.
take a look at the fluidsynth docs, it might just be a midi ‘switch’
