Removing plugins, project crashes

Hi,

I’ve had my DSP Card installed and updated both firmwares today. I’ve encountered problems when I load and remove plugins. The project crashes and the sound of the samples/pattern are off. Still blinking but no sound. I have to reboot the unit but this keeps happening. Removing plugins cuts off the sound. Project crashes. Even a saw tooth sound also appears sometimes… All of the plugins I’ve tried are the ones that come with the DSP. All as inserts.

I’ve tried different SD cards, formatted them etc and same problem. Tried it with my samples and also with internal ones but same problem. Updated the S2400 latest firmware again but no luck. I haven’t even load more than 2 plugins into a track.

Does anybody else have this issue??? Is that something related to Firmware that Isla could be aware of??? I believe the DSP card is properly installed as I can reach to its menu and load stuff. If anybody can help I’d appreciate it a lot.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah same here.. hoped formatting the sd card would be a fix but this is worrying me now.

Same here after some removing and adding of plugins.
Also others have mentioned it in the “DSP Plugin discussion”-thread.

Same. I heard the strange constant sound too. I couldn’t get rid of it so I had to power cycle.

So yeah I’ve also been dealing with this. Here’s what I’ve done to remedy the situation somewhat. There are two files in your project folder for that project. One has the project name and “DSP” after it and the other is “LFX” with the project name before it. Mount your SD card to your computer, phone or what have you and then delete those file from your project folder. This will at least give you a clean slate in your project with out losing most of your work. Do yourself a favor. When you get a stable set up, make a backup of the project and the “SET” file located on the root of the sd card. Hope this helps

Hi, thanks a lot for sharing this workaround. I had no succes though. Deleted both files you say but ends up crashing after a couple of minutes working on the project. I’ve also tried it with the SD card that was used to update both firmwares and same problem. I’ve tested the reverbs, delays, tape, distortion, compressor, eq, lofi… no good.

I am worried. Hope it’s a bug and this can be addressed with a new firmware. Also hope Isla is taking care of this.

Is there a sequence playing when you remove a plugin and it crashes?

Yes. Pattern runs but no sound. I’ve removed plugins while pattern playing and crashes. Also removed plugins when pattern is stopped and crashes as well.

We need more to go on.
Exactly what plugins.
Are you hearing your fan do a spin up at boot up?
Post a video if you can.

Hi Brad,

I see the project crashes when I remove plugins. I’ve just updated both firmwares just now and after a couple of minutes, and when I remove the reverb or drumslap or delay… suddenly a constant saw tooth sound appears. I’ve only tested the stock plugins. You can see the pattern playing with no sound. You have to power off and on again. This keeps happening.

The fan does spin up at boot up which I think it’s like it should.

Yeah going through the same thing again. I’ve noticed that if I don’t mess with the Live effects at all it doesn’t crash. But the second i try to add another effect on to slot 2 on Live effects, it crashes. I’ve also noticed that if I play with the “Brilliance” setting while using the fader on the RX950 on my master buss, it crashes.

Big thing is, A/B inserts don’t work anymore at all.

Also just updated to the latest firmware and sawtooth crash hasn’t occured yet (working in an existing project in which I experienced it before). Live FX also works but is not stable all the time (little bit glitchy for some effects). And adding another plugin on a instrument channel doesn’t work well, as in: this is super glitchy (on VintageDreamsWaves).

Also A/B aux sends doesn’t work (no sound effect when turning a/b knob in dsp mixer channels). Didn’t try on previous firmware.

(also hearing the fan spin up at boot up)

I just tried some controlled testing with some of the plugs I’ve played around with so far.
There’s a video for TEST 3.

Latest firmware:
S2400_20250325.upd
s2400dsp-3.1.10.swu

SETUP:
Made a new project for each of the three tests.
Loaded internal sounds: Kick (output 1), Snare (output 2), Hat (output 3).
Used Bus 1 in the DSP mixer for the plug-ins.
Only used Airwindows plug-ins.

Fan spins up as usual after every reboot.

TEST 1:

  1. Add Compresaturator (Dynamics)
  2. Add kPlateA (Reverb)
  3. Add IronOxideClassic2 (Tape)
  4. Add ToTape5 (Tape)
  5. Remove ToTape5
  6. Remove IronOxideClassic2
→ Now the music stopped and the sawtooth appeared.

TEST 2:
I tried to reproduce test one, but without using ToTape5.
Unfortunately I forgot to choose video on my phone and just took a picture.
However, at some point, it also messed up.
The sawtooth didn’t appear though, Just silence.
Maybe ToTape5 has something to do with the sawtooth sound.

TEST 3 (with video):
(Notice, that after test 2, when I at test 3 now go to the DSP Card folder, an empty folder appeared between the folders “All Vendors” and “Airwindows” folder. It’s at 0:11.)

Tried to reproduce test 1. Same result, but I came a bit longer before it stopped working.

  1. Add Compresaturator (Dynamics)
  2. Add kPlateA (Reverb)
  3. Add IronOxideClassic2 (Tape)
  4. Add ToTape5 (Tape)
I then removed them in the opposite direction
  5. Remove ToTape5
  6. Remove IronOxideClassic2
  7. Remove kPlateA
  8. Remove Compresaturator
    I now add them again
  9. Add ToTape5
  10. Add IronOxideClassic2
  11. Add kPlateA
  12. Add Compresaturator
    Remove again
  13. Remove ToTape5
  14. Remove IronOxideClassic2
  15. Remove kPlateA
→ Now the constant sawtooth appears. For some reason my phone can’t really catch it, but you hear it burst out at 01:13. It then continues, although it isn’t audible in the video.

Hereafter I just play around as you see, add and remove plug-ins.

It doesn’t always happen exactly as described above. Sometimes it freezes for some seconds.
When it does mess up, I also sometimes get other messages like “Delete Error” and other stuff.
Feels like there is some randomness to it.

It also happens when not playing while adding/removing.

thanks for the in-depth testing.
are you able to make this happen with using plugins that are ‘not’ airwindows?
I’m wondering if this might be due to the heavy use of oversampling and things that are otherwise not optimised for running on arm cores.

it’s on the list to compile a more optimised airwindows package that includes all the new stuff.
the list… which gets bigger every day..

I just tried a quick testing now this morning before I go to work, so not that organized.

Only Calf-plugins.

Samples loaded to Bank A pad 1-7. Running a loop.
I was capable of running at least 4 plug-ins on bus 1-5. (actually I could load more, even though I thought the limit was 4 pr. bus)
I just loaded different plug-ins from the top of the Calf-plugin-folder and then downwards.
Eventually all sounds got affected by a kind of digitally sounding distortion. Also pad 6-7 with no plug ins.
I started to remove some plugins, and then I got the sawtooth and error-messages.

Did it twice. First time no sawtooth but just silence.

It seems like it hits a limitation at some point.
However, I came a lot further before it happened this time, with no Airwindows.

Just realized, my tests maybe aren’t that comparable.

For the three Airwindows tests I just added 4 plugs, removed them, added them again and so on.
So only 4 plugs at a time.

For the Calf test, I added several plugs. About 20-30 running at the same time.

So now I just tried to add several Airwindows plugs, to see when something actually goes wrong.

I don’t know, if is usable for something, but I have uploaded a project.
(Don’t worry about the music - it’s just quickly set up for testing )

With this project I have only Airwindows plugs - just random ones:
4 x plugs on Bus 1
4 x plugs on Bus 2
3 x plugs on Bus 3
4 x plugs on Bus 4

When running the track, it acts normal.

Notice, that on Bus 4, only the first plug is enabled.
As soon as I activate one of the three others (with F1) it starts glitching.
The glitching affects all sounds, so it is not just the chosen effects doing something on the specific bus.
If I deactivate the plug again, the glitching stops.

What I find interesting, is that this project don’t just stop functioning totally. It’s like it’s at some tipping point, so to say.

Maybe the same happens for you, and could be useful for some further testing?

I successfully removed all plugs, without no error-messages.
Sound disappeared though. Also if opening other projects. Had to reboot.
The uploaded project is from before I tried this.
