New Isla product request...who agrees?

Hi guys…

Wouldn’t it be great if “Brad and the boys” was working on a portable workstation device similar to the OP-XY ? with a mini S2400 sampler module and a mini caladan synth module in it… yummm

Doesn’t really appeal tbh
The market is flooded with small “groovebox” devices…

Not for me, at least. There are plenty of options for digital grooveboxes, and I appreciate that Isla specifically chooses to focus on physical, robust, hands-on studio instruments. Adding more devices in the same form factor seems more logical to me—perhaps a mixer or an analog drum machine, for instance. However, I think for the coming years, they’ll likely have their hands full with the DSP card, the Caladan, and any other potential expansions for these

Right, but I said “workstation” not groovebox :upside_down_face:

Fair enough, mainly responding to the example of the OP-XY

No, there isn’t much point in that.

I mean, the OP-XY sounds like the toy that it is. I have had my s2400 for a week now and it’s blown me away. I smile everytime I walk past the damn thing. So ya, Kordbot form factor, s2400 build quality/sound? I’d buy it. These guys are absolute legends.

If they were to do something new I’d rather it “add to their ecosystem” the way the Caladan does. Even though I’m still on the fence about getting a Caladan, I like how the form factor is similar to the S2400 and how it appears to be designed to work alongside it. I’d rather seem them add a mixer (maybe one that is compatible with the dsp card/has its own?) or something else that would work well alongside their other offerings.

Neutering their two current offerings to make a groovebox would likely be an expensive undertaking that would result in a product that it not cheap enough price wise for the market it would be targeting. I’ve actually yet to see a groovebox where the general consensus regarding the price was good and/or not immediately bombarded with feature requests upon release, and those offerings are from major companies that have a lot more resources to work with.

No more new hardware yet. Let’s get what’s promised to us first.

The OP-XY seems to be “neutral sounding” (like a computer), so it sounds like what you put in it. I am not comparing the OP-XY with the S2400…These are two completely different devices with different purposes and targetting different markets.

I think there’s a complementary market for portable versatile music production devices… People are complaining about the OP-XY (me included lol) mostly because of the insanely high price tag.

Lool you might be right

Why?

Seriously, why?

Isla is not Roland/Yamaha/Korg etc where they can reiterate and crap out new versions of their tech to fill every niche, diluting the power of their legacy.

They’re also not Teenage Engineering, where they are less a music instrument company than a lifestyle brand.

They’re not Elektron, with decent synth engines (or iffy sampling) and powerhouse sequencers designed for everyone who got a boner to a Warp Records release.

They’re their own thing. Relatively(!) simple music making tools designed to assist you get from fancy monkey pre-frontal cortex to moving air and feet. Focus on core composition instead of p-lock jack off music soulless enough to be the royalty free background to a NPR podcast. Design ethos from the past when resources were limited but with enough facilities to integrate into a modern setup.

That’s my take, anyways. Go get a Teenage Engineering medieval KO sampler thing.
