Keep it simple, please

Im not having my machine yet. But I wanted to say something about the feature requests.

A large amount of the success and enjoyment of the sp1200 comes from the easy system and the relative stript down Features. Please keep this always in mind and don’t implement features that complicate the s2400. The music doesn’t get better this way.
I hope this is a big thing at isla and they don’t get in the trap of feature requests. That’s all.

Am I the only one who things this way?

Yes and no.
I agree with you and I think that’s what the plan was.
But having more functions is great, but they are behind the menus so you won’t even see them if you don’t want to.

Or how about a start up mode where you can select “simple or advanced” mode?

I know what you mean, but the fact that these functions are not even there makes you think more about the music and creative ways to make things.

The sp1200 had exactly the right amount of functions to make great beats. It’s always tempting to say this or that would be great features but this doesn’t make you a better musician

But S2400 is not the sp1200 ! We are in an other era and we need more function

I don’t know, maybe im wrong, but I think lesser functions trimmed to perfection are better than more features without a concept

Keep in mind the SP-1200 was CPU bound by its Z80 and a lot of functionality was not really practical. From my perspective, I think that Brad, Mickey and Vlad have done a great job at balancing usability with functionality. I dont think there is any reason to panic just yet about feature creep. In some ways the layout of this box is going to be the limiting factor. There are only so many button chords you can efficiently create, and the display is only so big, so I dont think there is a lot of danger of this trying to be a full MPC/Dawless drum sampler. I think the folks in charge of steering the ship are doing a pretty good job here.

I agree with you to a degree, as I’ve seen requests for absurd functionality which doesn’t belong on this box, nor probable in some cases, however – there’s still much to be desired between some minor additions and bugs.

You don’t even own the machine yet, so you don’t know

Yeah you’re right, I don’t even own the s2400 yet. It’s just a concern that I wanted to address because of the absurd request some people have

You’re not talking about the request where the guy wanted KITT’s voice from Knight Rider to come on when the Machine goes into Sleep mode and the LEDs on the Drum Pads scan back and forth like his Firebird Grille??? LOL

So are we talking about the Lotus philosophy here and adding more lightness?

Future things? Im happy with -

Multi channel over USB
Time Stretching
2 or 4 extra channels of poly

Then…Done. Move on. There is a whole arsenal of effects etc out there to use already - save the CPU for poly

This is getting stupid silly. 16 voices. What next, a larger screen the size on an ipad? If you cant make it happen with what weve already got then your have a problem with writing music. I think some people are out of touch.
