Input monitoring: gain x10 distortions

I know that the akai s20 is white and red phono input and out. The S950 is left or right. Probably a few others im forgetting.

I think you should make a feature request for that. I don’t work for Isla Instruments so you should not ask me

But I think the phono inputs goes through the vinyl preamp. I tried plugging an old sp303 into the phono preamps once but it sounds like shit. Distoring like hell! So I think they will only work with a vinyl player but I might be wrong.

All the time, I saw this thread popping up, I thought about the samples sounding like a line level signal sent into a phono preamp input. I couldn’t get to logging in and responding… but of course you cannot use a phono input for ANY sampler. And turntables nowadays are not even using phono level outputs anymore. These also need to be connected to the jack inputs.

Seems to me we can close this thread now @cfd2 @jaIVIalill ?

they will only work with a traditional vinyl player

No, you are confusing RCA with phono.

Phono level is a signal no amplified, all sampler reject amplified sound ! So connect it on the line input haha

So everyone that experienced this problem used the phono inputs? Then that solves it i quess.

Didn’t even think that could be the case hehe

o my bad your right RCA. I just looked on the back of the s2400 and the white and red says phono.

The examples up above of live loop using other samplers i used a 6.35mm 1/4" Male to Male TRS. Into input 1.

Okay, so part of it was user error and part of your test are not yet clear…

Could you try a TS-TS cable? The SP has a proprietary output scheme and the inputs of the S24 might be non standard too (idk, the manual only talks about pseudo balanced outputs, the inputs are not specified). So maybe a TS only cable will give you clear signals

Thanks man! Gotcha ill scoop one up from amazon and get back with a response if theres any difference. The TS-TS cable only has one ring right around the tip? I think my TRS cord has two.

Definitely wasn’t my case. I had issues with gain staging and possibly double monitoring of the signal because of me being 2dumdum :stuck_out_tongue:

Alright!

Can confirm it made a big difference with the TS cable. Livelooped again earlier with the EPS and when I played keys of samples and drum beat it had no sound issues crackling distortion whatsoever. Definitely made a big impact! When i made a beat on the EPS and played it from the sequencer into the Live looping it then began to make some pops and overdubbed sounds on the s2400 with the same BPM.
