Help me understand the loop chopping workflow

I can’t seem to find a solid workflow that allows me to sample a loop and synchronize it to the S2400’s clock.

For example, say I record in a one bar loop that’s playing back at some unknown bpm and my S2400’s tempo is set at 120 bpm. It seems I would need to do two things: use the tap button to align the tempo with my sampled loop. Then, I need to trim the sample so that it perfectly fits the one bar duration at the tempo. After that it’s just a matter of nudging the tempo and tweaking the beginning and endpoints of the loop until it sounds right.

However- I can’t change the tempo when I’m editing the sample, and can I can’t edit the sample while I’m playing back and adjusting the tempo.

What workflow do people use to solve this problem? Or, do most S2400 users record and sync their loops in a DAW and import them later?

Here is how I do it:

  1. Chop a loop (maybe in multimode, maybe not)
  2. Work out the number of bars and the quantize setting I need and set those up
  3. Tap the tempo with my right hand while playing the loop on the pads with my left
  4. Round the resulting BPM off to the nearest whole number
  5. Record it into the sequencer
  6. Make sure it loops properly
  7. Adjust the tempo if it doesn’t

and that’s the BPM for my pattern. It’s super easy and takes no time at all. I imagine lots (if not most) people using hardware samplers do something similar.

Tap tempo is love, tap tempo is life.

This might help you sync to the S2400 clock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWyr8mIWWn4&t=8s

Assign your sample and enter loop/slice mode, load the desired sample onto a track/pad. Select the Loop/Slice mode, I think it’s labeled ‘F’. Access waveform view by pressing ‘B’ on the desired sample track to visualize the waveform, which aids in precise chopping. The rest is up to you guy. Good luck.
