Hey everyone. As the title suggests I am trying to use a midi controller to record notes into step program mode. I want to go to a step, play a chord on my keyboard and have all the notes entered into a single step so that I can program midi chords without having to use the pitch slider or multi mode to enter multiple notes.
I am using the usb host port and have configured my tracks correctly.
I am in record mode. I have tried the midi focus mode. Nothing works.
I can play a track with the keyboard and see the pads light up, but nothing records into step programmer.
Have looked through the manual. Any help? Please tell me this is possible?

I’ve never been able to get this to work either and I reallllyyyyyy wish it did. I’ve fallen back on using a Digitone 2 to sequence my midi stuff, since I do a lot of step sequencing. I may be ignorant and wrong, hopefully someone will chime in if there’s a way, but I don’t think you can do this on S2400.

Well, as much as it would suck if this is not possible, I take solace in knowing I am not the only one experiencing this.
@Mickey Being able to enter a chord into a single step is critical for me to utilize the S2400 how I want to; as the heart of my studio. Thank you!
Actually I am able to live play a midi sequence and have it record notes, just can’t seem to put them in step mode, sadly imma pretty clumsy player but it is forcing me to up my skills haha

Okay, thanks for pointing that out, Ian! I can also do this.
So it really is just the step editor. Brad! Mickey! If you’re listening, please make this happen! I know you’re busy w/Caladan, but this small tweak would be massive for my workflow (and hopefully others?). Or educate me on how this can be achieved?
Thanks all!

Yeah I got a used s2400 Saturday, ordered a DSP card today, and joined the forum today. I haven’t gotten around to testing this but just assumed it was possible. Are we saying A) it isn’t possible or B) the ability to do it is there but it does not function so we need a firmware upgrade or C) it just isn’t working for anyone replying on this thread?

I don’t think it’s possible to Open Step Programmer → Enter a midi note via an external controler/keyboard → watch it appear in the pattern. It seems the only way to enter midi data into the pattern is to record it into the pattern in live mode OR to enter it into step programmer via the pad/fader.
I’d love to be proven wrong, so let me know what you experience.
seems like an odd quirk i’d love to see resolved.
