thanks for this
You are gentleman and a scholar… your birthday weekend you give us all presents! Thank you Brad you beautiful being!
Has anyone tried these? Are the modulation routings, Amp and Filter Envelopes actually setup to work in the Sound Font presets and they actually work in the S2400?
Because it seems the SoundFont versions floating around the web are not setup to transmit midi CC values for the envelopes… so one would have to program each sound one at at time to work in the S2400?
I have my eye on this https://digitalsoundfactory.com/product/e-mu-proteus-pack/ but am a little hesitant to pull the trigger until I hear a report of how well it works - anybody take one for the team yet?
I purchased and loaded up the DSF acoustic drum kits, though I ran into some issues where my SD card was disappearing and I’d need to reformat using my MBP / OSX. There might be a problem with my OWC SD card, or there might be some load / store something happening when you move 400MB of samples over to the DSP. I’m not pointing a finger and will try another card in the next week or so.
I did, however, have the kits up and running on the DSP card. You get some decent velocity layering, and the samples are very clean. But you only get that - no pitch mods nor enveloping. You do get an FX chain after that, and the samples summed to mono pretty well. For drums, I’m going back to velocity layers in multimode, and then use the DSP card for the FX chain.
With E-mu, having worked there back in the day, the sounds are well-recorded and very clean. They are not always aesthetic marvels that scream “use me in your tracks,” at least not without some additional love.
I was thinking of the SF2 as presets not synths and didn’t try MIDI cc routing. Could be cool is that works.
coming on to do a livestream now to walk you through how to do the global modulators pretty easily.
will be live in a few minutes.
I use all of them, and love them!
Xtreme Lead, Orbit and thei ensoniq banks are mint!
Thanks Brad - I’m familiar with the sounds and have wav versions of most already.
Are the patches set up as individual files or as one large file per machine, where you can select the patch?
edit - it looks like polyphone https://www.polyphone.io lets you copy presets into a new soundfont file, which seems really neat for making custom banks, so this doesn’t matter. I never used a soundfont editor before - just player. neat!
