I did and this may be the solution- i feel like a moron haha!
No problems since I’ve gone direct. Have been on it all morning. Will keep you posted if I am able to get the error going direct but it seems like it might have been a hub issue all along!

Don’t feel like a moron. It’s a common issue even with powered hubs. Occasionally I have a device that does better in a high speed powered hub vs the ports on the Mac, other times it’s the opposite without a lot of rhyme or reason. You just have to keep trying out different options and eliminating others when trying to troubleshoot this stuff. Sometimes I’ve had to remove all USB peripherals to track down an issue with one port in particular that doesn’t like a specific device. USB can be flakey.
