A Caladan update from Brad

I waited for over 3 years for my Expressive E Osmose. This delay is a piece of cake. I know it’s going to be awesome, and I really appreciate the transparency!

Peace and Blessings Brad.

Thank you for the update. Here to support. Supporting the brand and helping out is what this community can do. Don’t beat yourself up but I know keeping a high standard sets the brand apart and we appreciate everything you do. So hey, if the self care means turning on the camera and ranting about some new vendor or process you coded then we’re here to listen also. Definitely take care of yourself and time. Burnout is no joke and requires self-care.

Cheers mate!

Hey Brad, I just wanted to echo everyone else’s support on here. The S2400 is so fucking sick, and has personally seen me through some dark times of late.

I hope things improve! You deserve it.

Hey Brad…I seldom write a reply to a post but I want to say “Thank You” for creating my S2400. It’s truly a “labor of love!” I respect your decision to “share” why this Canadian has not shipped. I didn’t pre-order one and don’t really get into the synthesis side of things. I will say man DON’T STRESS YOUR SELF OUT! If you have a heart attack YOUR FAMILY and WE’RE ALL SCREWED! Dude there are literally millions of companies that don’t deliver something they thought they were going to deliver and they HAVE NO CONSCIOUS AT ALL about it and do it again. Your honesty is admirable but your health and state of mind is irreplaceable. Take a vacation and chill!

urrgh, I really don’t deserve you guys! <3
I’ll be sharing a video before I pack up this makeshift setup up next week.
You’re gonna love what it can do!

@bradholland I’ve seen some frustration expressed on this forum over various things surrounding these products, and some I would say are fair enough to discuss. But I’ve remained quiet because as a software developer who’s been in the startup environment, I can appreciate the challenges of running a small outfit. FWIW I can sense the love and passion that are put into these products and it’s evident in the way they’ve been presented and delivered to users. IMO it speaks volumes about how awesome Isla Instruments is and how special these machines are amongst the sea of InMusic and Behringer products. I’m really rooting for you and Isla Instruments, and my S2400 is here to stay in my arsenal of gear.

With that being said I also think that the open sourcing of your firmware would be an epic approach to further developing and supporting these products. However I also recognize that it could open up a big can of worms for the business and Logistic end of things.

Wishing you all the best Brad. I get that small business delivering high quality is very challenging

When you’re back can we please have an update on how you plan to address S2400 and DSP updates especially with regards to bug fixes? There are quite a few logged in the bug forum. Thanks.

Yeah for sure.
As soon as I have a desk setup my first thing is to spend a week revisiting the bundled plugins like air windows and make them optimized for our platform.
Bugs need to be triaged properly by the beta team also.
All I have right now is my laptop and a Caladan until my shit gets across the ocean.
I’m already missing it terribly. Just today I had to go and buy a usb cable, knowing I have about 500 in a box on their way to me…

I understand bugs need to be triaged but some have been there quite a while. If the triage team have more questions to replicate, maybe they can respond to threads. Enjoy the USB cable lol that must be frustrating.

There isn’t really a ‘they’ there is a ‘me’ .
The beta team are customers, like yourself that get earlier access to firmwares etc when released.
The team does need a refresh to be honest, but yes, others need to replicate other users experiences so we can agree that something is actually a bug, or user error or actually a feature request..

Just wanted to add my support here.
I’m really enjoying making the quadrowave card and the FMCard, this is going to be a beast of a synth so it’s worth doing it right.

Good luck with the move and if I can help you know how to reach me.

That’s great, but if you go and look in the forum, there are a heap of bug instances with no formal response. I have DMd you something but I don’t know if it is a bug or simply me choosing a setting that has caused a problem. I didn’t log it as a bug because I don’t know if it is a bug. I would be interested in knowing if there is a solution because they only fix so far seems to be deleting the settings file which definitely wouldn’t work in a performance or live context

Reposting as a reply, sorry

Brad, I have to say, the products you are making are fantastic, as is the effort you put into the videos that inform us of your progress. I bought an S2400, and a Kordbot. I preordered a Caladan in August of ‘24, and I’ve eagerly watched as it takes shape. Please, please, please don’t give up! Take the time you need, keep your family happy, and yourself healthy, both physically and mentally. What you bring will be worth the wait. If it helps, like some of the others, I’m happy to kick in more money to help. Just be well, and be the awesome guy from the videos, making tech-dreams come true!
