When sampling chords, what is a good method for determining the key or root note?

What’s going on @peecee the best way I can suggest is by playing a virtual instrument / real instrument alongside the sample of the chord and find the root note by ear, then build the chord according to what you hear.

or, there two other options that I can think of off the top of my head:

  1. you could use something like serato sample or scaler2 to detect the chord when you place
    the audio file in the plugin

  2. you could convert the chord to midi in say, ableton if you right click the sample’s audio file
    and select → convert melody/harmony to new midi track
