Hello, I’ve never preordered a product before quite interested in the Caladan, any news on release date?
Also will pre orders ship to the uk? What’s the deal with shipping and taxes? Will bat be added at customs once the product arrives in the uk?
If you pre-ordered it with shipping to the UK, they will ship it to you.
You will have to pay customs duties and taxes like with any other purchase.
What’s the update on shipping of Caladan? I ordered mine back in Oct ‘23 and have yet to hear any progress on this project. Looking through forum posts, I don’t see anything on where things are at. Please advise.
I have put out several updates on where we are at, both here in the forum and across our facebook pages and youtube.
Right now, I am concentrating on physical production of hardware.
The rest of the team are dedicated to developing the firmware aspect of the machine.
As always, when I have news to share, I do.

I appreciate you sharing the status of Caladan in your videos when there’s developments. But with the collapse of Aodyo (a company with existing products and a history of delivering that got so ambitious with their new synth they went bankrupt leaving preorderers without refunds or gear) could you say a little about the health of Isla Instruments generally?

Yeah that’s a tough one I feel bad for them.
I’m not sure about the ins and outs and what exactly went wrong so I can’t speculate on that.
That said, there is of course an enormous amount of trust (and stress) that is put on me and so It’s my duty to the best I can to protect us from that.
As I’ve been going along, I put things into mass production as soon as I can.
so as we’re talking about caladan specifically, that means that I have purchased all the internal power supplies, all the special cable assemblies, exotic semiconductors, knobs, feet, encoders potentiometers oled display screens and already have the items here.
1000 stock voice cards are currently in mass production also.
The final two pieces that are yet to be put into manufacturing are the main pcb and the metal enclosure.
While I can’t possibly know what the future holds for isla instruments ( i could get hit by a bus tomorrow) I am very confident on my ability to deliver this product.
and even if something catastrophic were to happen, since I would have all the parts to build the caladans, i’d send you all the parts and you could build them yourself! lol

Update posted yesterday.
I listened to that and must have missed Caladan information. It was mentioned once that I caught, but only in passing regarding the DSP cards. Can you summarize? Getting worried as well.
No real update on Caladan. In last update (same update Rob is referring to) Brad mentioned that he wanted to get the DSP cards out to their customers before giving any information about the Caladan, so I guess we have to wait for that 
Obviously it’s way behind the projected completion date but there have still been signs of life teased periodically. Last we heard, the enclosure was getting tweaked before mass production on those begins. I’m fairly sure some of the boards have already started production. I think they just had so many hang ups with the S2400 DSP boards since they were delivered to HQ four months ago that it has probably made anything Caladan related (especially firmware) have to take a backseat. I’m sure once the DSP boards get shipped out we’ll get another Caladan progress update in the next month or two. It’s frustrating but hey it’s a small team doing quite a lot of work!
