Possible BUG: Sounds in preview play at a higher pitch

I don’t know why this is the case, possibly some setting that I am missing, sounds in assign sound preview sometimes play pitched up. They are in 48000Hz 16 bit.
Is there any setting or combination of settings that could influence this?
Latest late April fiirmware, DSP board installed.

Ok so now I also got a lower pitched sound in the preview (shift-pad → assign sound).
This is after loading the project on a fresh boot.

Why is this the case, that preview sounds are affected by some part of the sound engine?

I have something similar going on, are you on USB? My thoughts were it might be the audio over usb, for example the difference between 44.1 and 48. the source sample could be 44.1 but the s2400 plays it as 48, speeding it up.

i also can’t preview audio while sampling at 12 bit, probably for the same reason, a mismatch.

So i think as long as everything is at 48 khz, all is well. any mismatch, its not converting, so it either plays it differently, or not at all.

I don’t have the DSP, do have the latest firmware.

I suspected something about sample rate so I converted all of my samples to 48000Hz.
Didn’t do anything.

What’s really annoying me is that half of the time, ISLA don’t indicate that they are looking into any of the bugs in here anymore. It’s becoming a bit of a chord bot scenario…

There are also no explanations as to what might be the reason for some of the weird malfunctions that are being reported. Most of it is being ignored.

I know they are working on that synth, but this is still not ideal.

Ok I did a bit of testing then, and I can definitely say that the “assign sound” preview is affected by the pitch of the track.
I can’t think of any scenario where this is not a bug.

I had the same issue for a while. I think an OS update fixed it, but it’s been a while since I’ve been on the machine. I’ll have to test again soon.

Im on the latest firmware (end of April) so I think there’s no new update to fix it in its current state.

I may be that it doesn’t occur all the time but that it’s a glitch from using the pitching.

Hi bro hope u are well. Based on everything here, it seems like there are two likely contributing factors:

  1. Track Pitch Dependency
Your finding that “assign sound” preview follows the track pitch makes sense—if the preview is tied to the voice engine instead of being neutral, any track pitch offset could affect what we hear. This would definitely feel like a bug because preview ideally should ignore pitch settings and just audition the raw sample.

  2. Sample Rate
The earlier comments about 44.1 vs 48kHz still point to another possible layer. If the engine isn’t consistently resampling during preview, mismatches could cause speed/pitch anomalies too. Converting all samples to 48kHz didn’t solve it for you, which suggests the issue isn’t just the file format but the internal handling of preview relative to playback.

What might help to confirm

  • Test with a new blank project, one track at default pitch, load the same sample—does preview sound correct?

  • Then, set track pitch to +1 or -1 semitone and preview again. If the issue is 100% reproducible this way, that’s a strong bug report.

  • Mention whether DSP effects or USB audio routing are on/off, just in case they introduce differences.

Thank you.

It’s definitely pitch dependent. Load any sound, stay in sample loading, hit pitch, move fader, hear how all the previews are being pitched.

This also happens if you a new sound to a previously pitched track.

Latest April firmware.

Thank you! Was wondering what the hell was going on. That’s actually really dope to be able to preview with pitching!

Well it’s kind of a feature/bug kind of behaviour because it applies pitch already on the track. If it was something that could be toggled on the fly I’d find it useful, but most of the time it’s just disturbing my workflow (ie if I want to replace a sound and hear it’s original character, I first have to pitch the track back, which also means that I will lose the pitch I have set for the track, which is annoying if I don’t want to replace the sound after all)…

I think it get in the way more than it helps and I would prefer it if the pitching was in effect only after the sound was assigned.

I am also experiencing this - previewed sounds are being heard pitched down from normal, while trying to load into an empty pad with blank settings.

Thanks for weighing in!

We need a proper bugfix update sooner rather than later…

Same with the loop mode cannot be turned off and envelopes cannot be changed, and resampling producing empty files.

Hope that @bradholland csn weigh in on the progress of the next update and what will be addressed..

Me too, in preview mode, samples are pitched higher.
