Thank you for the reply Tekno smoker - this is exactly what I was talking about.
I live monitor from a seperate device and I need it to be in stereo, still not sure why that isn’t happening.
I have re read every single reply to my original post (either I didn’t pose the question well enough, or replies got the wrong end of the stick) and have done all panning settings correctly.
To anyone trying to recreate what both of us are talking about - Try running a true stereo channel (multiple sounds panned in stereo field) through the live input monitoring inputs either 1+2 or 3+4 whilst a beat/sequence plays. If you hear the live input monitor in true stereo PLEASE would you post your pan/live input monitor settings!
ah… you say “while a beat/sequence is playing” so do you mean in this is when you are in Live Loop mode??
Live Loop mode does indeed default to recoring / monitoring in Mono, so you have to “regonigure” live loop mode to be in stereo.
If this is the scenario, watch this video - its the 2:55 shows you how to reconfigure to stereo - live loops will not monitor and record in stereo (assuming you ALSO have panning set correctly to 100%L and 100%R as noted above)
I do this all the time. I have a prophet 6 synth coming in Analogue inputs 1 and 2 (L and R out of the prophet), I play a sequence on the s2400, and Live Loop record in STEREO over the top of it. But you do have to make sure you have “Reconfigured” live looping to stereo mode to achieve this.
This also confused me on first few days, but kept watching the video tutorials and found it.
Whilst I am not talking about being in live loop mode this is very nteresting. I will have a look kater on with this particular info in mind.
The problem I am referring to is just when in “normal” playback mode playing an S2400 sequence.
Just to reiterate - I have a Boss RC-505MK2 going into inputs 1+2, I am doing all of my looping on this machine outside of the S2400. S2400 is sending midi clock perfectly fine to it.
The plan eventually was to be able to “loop the looper” whilst playing. I can do this in mono already.
Like I mentioned, L+rR outputs of the looper are going into 1+2 of the S2400.
When I engage live input monitoring, the different settings (stereo, l+r mixed etc) are all coming through mono, no matter how I have set up the internal pan!
Essentially I want to be able to use the RC505MK2 with all of the correct panning I have done on that machine, but have it go through the S2400 and everything then comes out of the MAIN outputs (to DAW, wherever)
I purchased and had the DSP card installed, which obviously has its own set of pans to learn and deal with. I am currebtly trying to work out this problem first before adding extra complexity.
Again, many apologies. I’d imagine it’s a very simple fix. I worry that ny explanation hasn’t been black and white enough!
Thankyou very much for your time reading and responding to a potentially silly question - I really appreciate the community here.
However, this issue is NOT in Live Looping mode (panning functions as it should in Live Looping mode, but if you are not utilizing Live Loops, then you lose a potential bank of normal sampling).
This issue persists when simply Input Monitoring a stereo signal.
Here are the steps to recreate what atlas_shrugs and I are describing:
Power on the S2400
Connect a device with a stereo signal to inputs 1 & 2.
Plug outputs 1 & 2 of the S2400 into your monitoring system.
Plug a set of headphones into the S2400.
Press SHIFT + Input Monitoring button.
Tick the checkbox for Analog Input, set Input Jacks to Line1&2, and set Input Mix to Stereo.
Play sound from your stereo device.
Both the headphone outputs as well as outputs 1 & 2 will generate a mono signal, not a stereo one.
Now - If at this point, you press SHIFT + Sample, the monitored signal becomes stereo. Problem is, you cannot run the sequencer in Sample mode. So if you want to hear a beat you’ve programmed, and play a stereo synth on top of it, you can’t.
You could use Live Loop mode, but again if you are not utilizing any Live Loops in your song, then you are sacrificing Bank D.
Its not a use case I’ve tried yet (monitoring outside of Sample or live Loop modes) but was planning to hook my SP404II up to this in a similar way so will have a try tonight and so if mine does the same.
Ah… The part I missed was setting the Output Jacks to 1 & 2, rather than their default 7 & 8.
Wish there was a way to save this as the default state when booting up the S2400, but I can work around by saving this configuration as a “template” & reloading every time I boot up the S2400.
Amazing stuff. Thanks very much for all of your responses, we got there!!
Enjoying the new DSP functionality, unfortunately ran into some bugs but I see the new 25.03 firmware is now available.
Thanks @teknosmoker for helping me out. Really appreciate it.
I sold everything I owned 5 years ago to get this machine and I am so happy that I did, including many MPCs, rackmount units etc
Thanks to you @atlas_shrungs for posting the issue. You helped me as well.
I’ve worked in music retail for 25 years & been through too many hardware samplers to count. In addition to being intuitive and inspiring to work with, the S2400 is definitely one of the best sounding units out there. …and having a great user community like this is the “cherry on top”.
