FR12 - calculate and resample chord samples from monophonic samples (Amiga ProTracker style+)

Feature Request #12 - Calculate and resample chord samples from monophonic samples[1]

Topics: sample processing

Function

  • calculate and resample chords from monophonic samples
  • like the respective function in Amiga ProTracker software
  • take a monophonic sample
  • select root not of sample (e. g. C3)
  • choose root note and type of chord (e. g. F, major)
  • resample
  • result: a chord sample based on the original monophonic sample

Suggestion for UI

  • in resample menu
  • as text based sub menu
  • select via push encoder: root note sample, chord root note, type of chord, inversion
  • naming of chords additionally displayed with tracker-like number system like 047 for major chord
  • Advanced version:
    • save different chords in a up to 8 chords containing sample chain which can be selected in multi mode
    • choose classical chord progression sequences from editable template list

Suggestions for technical aspects

  • should include also
    • 4-note chords
    • all inversions
      • including version with base note one octave down
  • classical Amiga/old sampler up/down pitch calculation method for each note of the chord before mixdown

What could be gained?

  • destructive editing → focus → productivity
  • classic tracker sound for chords
  • very easy chord progressions
  • house music revival

Personal comments

  • I know, this is rather gimmicky, and workaround would be bounce pattern
    • however, it is pretty tedious to program chords in a pattern with S2400 - would need the same sample on 3 or more tracks and then adjust tuning
    • the proposed method would be much quicker, more direct and it would emphasise the sampling core and sound of the S2400 (and not the sequencer)
