Why is there not much difference between 12bit and 16bit of S2400?

I understand, thank you

Thank you for your reply, I already understand the mystery

I can hear the difference try 12 bit against 16 bit and move the pitch up and down you’ll notice a HUGE difference unless you’re D E A F

I can also hear slight differences and I understand what moving the tone does. I’m just curious as to why there’s not much of a difference, and it’s not as obvious as VST’s bit reduction.

Bro it’s only 4 bits. Think about .mp3’s you can barely hear the difference of an mp3 recorderd at 320 than you can a 24bit 44.1 recorded multi track Pro Tools session. Try recording at 8 bits compared to 12 bits on the Isla S2400. Also keep in mind most VST Lofi plugins are meant to simulate different hardware samplers. Like the LoFi processor from D16 Group or the the SP950. They are also very close but a bit exaggerated. The best way to hear the difference is to record your sample from a turntable playing at 45 RPM’s if it’s a 33 RPM record. Then pitch down the sample you created to it’s normal or slower speed. You will hear a tremendous difference. Keep in mind that the SP1200 & S950 samplers were used with this technique. Even the Ensoniq ASR 10. Try it like it’s meant to be used and that’s a Left Mono sampler just like the original Emu SP1200. They over did the S2400 in my opinion. Only use the SP1200 mode at 12 bit 26khz sample range on the S2400 and only sample in Left sample input Mono. Sample your material at 45 RPM’s and it will sound identicle to the SP1200. I know this for a fact because I’ve tested machine against machine before selling my SP1200… Trust Fam.

I have the feeling that the VSTs you are using as a reference point are that emulating bit rate reduction are actually doing much more to color the sound. These VSTs are trying to create a desirable sound emulation and likely doing all sorts of things beyond bit reduction which is causing you to have unrealistic expectations of what sampling at 12b should sound like.

You’ve had some people give you solid answers on how to sample to sound like SP1200. What sound are you trying to get out of the S2400 that you aren’t getting?

Yes, I fully understand this after reading the above
